“Samrat’s mum studies sea turtles for a living, and now he gets to join her on the job. Young nature lovers get an honest peek at what a wildlife scientist actually does.”
Stars overhead, sand underfoot, and a long wait for turtles.
Waiting for Turtles is a gentle nature picture book about a boy and his researcher mother hoping to see sea turtles nest on an Andaman island.
Samrat can hardly contain his excitement. His mother, Seema, studies sea turtles, and they are off to Tarmugli Island on a turtle-watching trip. As night falls over the quiet, empty beach, they settle down and wait. Will the turtles come?
Why children love it
- Camping on the sand, with an early dinner of dal and rice on a makeshift stove.
- Mysterious tugs in the middle of the night that leave Samrat muttering "What's going on?"
- Glowing night scenes of starry skies, dark island forest and glittering waves.
