“Some friends would move mountains for you, but Veda insists Mumbai already has its own. Give it to a dear friend, especially one who lives far away.”
Doma misses her mountains. Veda says Mumbai has some too.
The Mountains of Mumbai is a big-hearted picture book about friendship, homesickness and a busy city.
Doma has come from Ladakh to visit her friend Veda in Mumbai. She loves the big city, but she misses the mountains back home. Then Veda makes a surprising claim: Mumbai has mountains too. But a proper mountain has some tests to pass.
Why children love it
- The test for a proper mountain, from rosy cheeks to a heart drumming like the Hemis Tsechu festival.
- Wide watercolour views of Mumbai, from the curving seafront road to crowded, colourful rooftops.
- Everyday corners too, like a building gate with its watchman and "Parking" sign.
