“Stage fright and an intergalactic stage make an awkward mix, and Neila is stuck with both. Children dreading the annual-day concert will cheer her on and might find a little courage themselves.”
Earth's worst band, beamed into space for an intergalactic battle.
Space Band is an illustrated adventure novel about three school friends whose band is beamed up to an intergalactic contest.
George, Neila and Bash dream of stardom, but they might just be the worst band on Earth. As soon as they start playing at the school Battle of the Bands, they are beamed up into space. Now they must beat alien bands from across the universe, or they may never get home.
Why children love it
- Chapters are called tracks, like songs on an album, such as "The Space Stadium".
- Bold comic lettering bursts off the page, from "THWACK!" to Bash's "Classic. Alien. Abduction."
- Wonderfully odd rival bands, like the crab-clawed Pincers, whose drummer slices through his drumsticks.

Quick answers
What does "performed by McFly" on the cover mean? Song lyrics run through the story, and McFly, Tom Fletcher's band, recorded the songs as a separate album.
Can a child read it alone? Yes, for confident readers. It is a full-length novel, but sound words and drawings break up the text.
