“With Anushka Ravishankar’s dry wit, sorting cats by their favourite fish becomes real set theory. Maths-shy children may get the idea before they notice it’s maths.”
Two circles, one upside-down U and a very opinionated cat.
Set Theory for Smartypants is a playful maths picture book about sets, and how we sort things into groups and compare them.
Can a bicycle and a banana belong to the same set? Could a set be completely empty? Everyday examples help find out, such as cats sorted into groups by the fish they like. Meanwhile Smartypants, the orange cat at the centre of it all, pulls some wonderfully grumpy faces.
What they'll discover
- Cats called Lotto and Eecha, who sit where the TUNA and MACKEREL sets overlap.
- Sets that throw together fish, cats, socks and dogs on one chalkboard.
- A cat-shaped symbol that means "is the smartest of all".
By Anushka Ravishankar · Illustrated by Pia Alizé Hazarika · Smartypants series · English
