“Grandparents in Chennai, here is the book to send to the grandchildren abroad. The hunt for Laddoo is a tour of home, and Karthik’s vet mum steals the show.”
A lost puppy on short legs, and all of Chennai to search.
Looking for Laddoo is a warm picture book about a boy searching Chennai for his lost puppy.
Laddoo, a small white pup with brown spots, has gone missing. Karthik and his mother Shankari, a vet, set off in her animal welfare van, helping animals along the way. Could Laddoo be at the Theosophical Society, or strolling down Marina Beach?
Why children love it
- Real Chennai places to spot, like the great banyan tree at Kalakshetra and Woodlands restaurant.
- A whole spread of sambar idli, thayir vadai, masala dosai and filter coffee, painted from above.
- The van radio plays the old Tamil song "Madrasa Suthi Paaka Poren".

Quick answers
What is a kuppam? A Tamil word for a small settlement, often a fishing village on the Chennai coast. Shankari needs to get to the Kuppam before 10.
Do you need the other City Series books? No. It is the third, but each book stands alone, set in a different Indian city.
