“With a new baby on the way, this Bible story gives an older child a hero to look up to in Miriam. Being the older one, she shows, is an important job.”
A baby in a basket and a big sister on watch.
Moses in the Bulrushes is a simple picture book retelling of the Bible story of baby Moses and his big sister, Miriam.
Egyptian soldiers have marched into Israelite towns on an awful task, and one mother must keep her baby boy safe. She hides him in a basket among the bulrushes, then goes home so no one grows suspicious. Miriam stays behind in the reeds to keep watch.
Why children love it
- Miriam peeks out from the bulrushes while a long-legged bird wades past.
- Key words in bigger, bolder letters, like "Miriam hid", for little ones to spot.
- Bright scenes of ancient Egypt, from palm trees to soldiers in striped headdresses.
