“Bookish children will fall for Feral, a book with its own bushy tail. Metty’s New London is full of such oddities, and well worth getting lost in.”
A tombstone with Metty's name on it. That can't be good.
Inkbound: Meticulous Jones and the Shadow Compass is a magical adventure novel set in the city of New London.
At the Founders' Day Parade, a tombstone carved with Metty's name appears and leads her to an eerie underground cathedral, home of the League of Shadows. Joining this secret society means defying Aunt Mag and facing dangerous challenges. But when someone threatens to reveal the family's darkest secret, Metty must become a member before the next full moon.
Why children love it
- Pumpkin, a gargoyle Metty accidentally brought to life, who hangs upside down from the curtain rail.
- Feral, a living book with a bushy tail that skitters down corridors.
- Dr Bell, who travels by fire and climbs straight out of the fireplace.

Quick answers
Do you need to read the first book? This is the second Inkbound adventure, after Meticulous Jones and the Skull Tattoo, so starting there is best.
Is it scary? There are eerie moments, but plenty of humour too, from a silly gargoyle to a sarcastic fire demon.
