“Elephants at the temple or the zoo are one thing, and Aan’s wild herd in the Western Ghats is quite another. It could change how children see the next elephant they meet.”
Meet Aan, a wobbly-legged baby elephant with a very big family.
I am Aan is a warm picture book about a baby elephant growing up, told in his own voice and full of real elephant facts.
Aan is a baby elephant in the forests of the Western Ghats, in a herd led by his grandmother, Dadi Rani. At first he stumbles every few steps when the herd moves, but within two days his legs begin to behave. Children follow him as he grows from carefree calf towards the tougher grown-up world.
Why children love it
- Aan tells his own story, starting with his sister Megha's welcoming trunk.
- Surprising family moments, like Aan drinking milk from his aunts and elder sisters too.
- Bold paintings of blue and pink elephants beneath rows of bright trees.
