“One page here will feel like home, with sweet rice boiling over and the cattle in their finery. It makes a warm doorway into harvests a child has never heard of.”
Twelve cultures, one shared joy: giving thanks for the food we grow.
Harvest Days: Giving Thanks Around the World is a rhyming picture book about how families in 12 cultures celebrate the harvest.
Gentle rhyming couplets carry readers from one harvest celebration to the next, with warm pictures full of traditional clothes, baskets and food. In one spread, a family dresses up the cattle while a pot boils over with sweet rice. Notes at the back explain more about each culture and how people have celebrated the harvest through history.
What they'll discover
- How Chuseok in South Korea and Homowo in Ghana each mark the harvest.
- A calendar showing when each harvest festival is celebrated.
- Questions to think about, like who grows the food and who picks it.
