“Every child who has unwrapped socks on their birthday will know how Dada feels. What he does next is a cheeky nudge to make good use of whatever you unwrap.”
A walking stick for spry old Dada? He has better ideas.
Dada's Useless Present is a warm, funny picture book about a grandfather, his granddaughter and a birthday gift he is sure he doesn't need.
Dada is celebrating his 82nd birthday, and he still feels as spry as ever. So when his son gives him a walking stick, the hint stings. Told by his granddaughter Panu, the story follows Dada as he puts his "useless" present to all sorts of unexpected work.
Why children love it
- Dada draws a noughts-and-crosses grid in the garden with the tip of his stick.
- A leafy mango-tree scene, with Panu holding a bowl piled high with mangoes.
- Sunny watercolours of the house and garden, full of comic expressions.
