“Tucked inside this fantasy epic is a tournament, with a seat on the Guardian Council as the prize. Contest-loving readers will race through it to see who’s still standing.”
Cielis was supposed to help. So why are its streets empty?
Amulet: The Last Council is a full-colour fantasy graphic novel, the fourth Amulet book, set in a frightened city.
Emily and her friends reach Cielis hoping for help, but its once-busy streets are deserted and the people left are afraid. At the Academy, Emily must compete for a place on the Guardian Council, a circle of the strongest Stonekeepers, amulet holders like Emily. As the field narrows, an awful secret comes to light.
Why readers love it
- A shopkeeper turns away Leon Redbeard the fox and his friends, a sign that Cielis has changed.
- A purple-lit showdown crackles with glowing powers and talk of "survival of the fittest".
- Moody art, from stone statues on the cover to glowing-eyed silhouettes on the back.

Quick answers
Do I need to read the earlier books first? Ideally, yes. It is the fourth of nine books and reads best after Books One to Three.
Is it scary? In places. A city living in fear, fierce contests and a dark secret build real tension.
